Phaeotremella foliacea is characterised by foliaceous to lobed basidioma, brownish color, lobes arising for the common base; hyphae clamped, hyaline to brownish, and anastomosing; basidia four-celled, ovoid to subglobose,basidiospores broadly ellipsoid to subglobose, hyaline to brownish (Spirin et al. 2018).

In Brazil, the species is found in Amazon Forest and Atlantic Rain Forest.
In Brazil, Amazon has currently the highest rates of deforestation in the last decades and the Atlantic Forest is a hotspot

More areas should be studied in order to assess the distribution of this species at least in Brazil.
