There has been some confusion regarding this species and S. imbricatus in the past.
Within the UK this species had previously been assigned to S. imbricatus. It would be useful to assess these two species simulataneously.
This species is predominantly distributed in northern Europe, but there are scattered records from elsewhere in the northern hemisphere per (GBIF.org (15 November 2019) GBIF Occurrence Download https://doi.org/10.15468/dl.dck3vi).
With such a wide range, the population size is suspected to be too large to qualify under either criterion C or D.
