Cantharellus luteopunctatus is a widespread chanterelle of Central Africa. It is not thought to warrant listing as threatened under any criterion, and so is assessed as Least Concern.

This species is associated with Gilberiodendron dewevrei, with records from Democratic Republic of Congo, Cameroon, Gabon and Burundi (GBIF.org, Ndong et al. 2011, Buyck et al. 2019). It is therefore, assumed to occur in other adjacent countries too.
