Nomenclatural problem exists. It is needed to find out which name is the best to use for this taxon, Chalciporus pseudorubinus (Thirring) Pilát & Dermek, C. pierrhuguesii (Boud.) Bon or C. amarellus.

Geographic range

The species is known from 10 countries. Its distribution is mainly in the Mediterranean area, the central Europe and Russia. Not known from Northern Europe.

Habitat and Ecology

Ectomycorrhizal species, characteristic for coniferous forests in mountainous areas (but not exclusively). Mycorrhizal with pines (Pinus spp.), spruce (Picea abies), and fir (Abies alba).
