Assessment Notes

Justification

Since the description of Cantharellus discolor there do not appear to be any subsequent records of the species. There is a lack of information on the habitat and ecology of the species, and it is not possible to assess the status of its population or distribution. It is therefore assessed as Data Deficient.

Taxonomic notes

Cantharellus discolor was described by Josef Velenovský in 1920 in České Houby and was listed by Petrak in 1930.

Type description highlights C. canaliculatus Pers. as likely to be related C. discolor.

GBIF lists taxonomy as doubtful.

Why suggested for a Global Red List Assessment?

Chanterelle species to be assessed as part of the chanterelle comprehensive project.

Geographic range

Range unknown, described from forest on Hůra near Tehov in the present-day Czech Republic from the type specimen.
No occurrence data available on GBIF.

Population and Trends

Only known from type description.

Population Trend: Uncertain

Habitat and Ecology

Type specimen described in ‘plump humus’ in old fir forest, occurring individually. Petrak’s List describes C. discolor in loose humus in old gymnospermous forest.

The extent of habitat and forest types it occurs in is unknown.

Temperate Forest

Threats
