Justification
Since the description of Cantharellus morchellocephalus there do not appear to be any subsequent records of the species. There is limited information available from the type description and with a lack of information on the habitat and ecology of the species, it is not possible to assess the status of its population or distribution. It is therefore assessed as Data Deficient.
Taxonomic notes
Cantharellus morchellocephalus was described in 1837 by C. Montagne.
It was listed by P.A. Saccardo as Stylobates morchelliformis in 1887, but this is not listed as a synonym on Index Fungorum.
GBIF lists taxonomy as doubtful.
