Auricularia delicata is characterized by its conspicuously porose-reticulate hymenophore, short hairs, medulla absent or indistinctly present near to the hymenium, hyphae with clamps, basidia clavate, transversely 3-septate, basidiospores allantoid,smooth, hyaline (Looney et al 2013). This species seems to belong to a species complex, divided in an Australian group and an American group (Looney et al 2013).

Widespread species, moslty in the tropics. In Brazil, the species is found in Amazon Forest, Atlantic Forest and Cerrado.
In Brazil, this species is moslty recorded in the Amazon Forest. However, the Amazon has currently the highest rates of deforestation in the last decades and the Atlantic Forest and Cerrado are already a hotspot.
The species even occurring in almost all biomes has a fragmented distribution. Studies about its population distribution are needed. Also, a better delimitaion of this species in Brazil is needed, once it seems to belong to a species complex.
