Perichaena chrysosperma is easily recognized by its horseshoe or ring-shaped plasmodiocarp.
Although to be a well distributed species, in Brazil this species need attention because many records are from endangered biomes. Thus, I suggest this species to be categorized in Least Concern
Perichaena chrysosperma is recorded in 75 countries. Brazil has 115 records shown in GBIF, added to that, there is 1 record from Alagoas state (unpublished) resulting 116 records, thus it is known in 9 of the 26 states.
There are 2907 records in 75 countries,115 records are from Brazil.
Population Trend: Uncertain
In Brazil occur in pre-Amazonian forest environments, lowland dense ombrophilous forests, semi-deciduous seasonal forests, restinga forests, caatinga and rupestrian field, in northeast region can be found in natural environments as well as in urban parks, backyards and home gardens, sporulating in almost all months of the year, but reaching its peak in the rainy season. It is mostly lignicolous, however, it occupies other microhabitats as well, developing on the cortex of living trees, on ground litter and on succulent and plant inflorescences (Cavalcanti et al., 2016)
In Brazil, besides occuring in Atlantic and Amazon forest, which has the highest rates of deforestation, many records are from human observation and occurr in unprotected areas.
Many records are in unprotected areas in Brazil.
More researches in Brazil are necessary mostly in north and central west, concerning field collection and moist chamber techniques using various types of substrate.
